Ever since I added in the Massive Map Pack for TS, I've been able to view files in XCC but they all come up with the filename somewhat like 06827e7tb or whatever. It's just symbols.

And I took a map from multi.mix and I couldn't open it in FinalSun so it was broken. And the the thing is, it happens with EVERY C&C for XCC, not just TS. And also I can't play TS' campaign. Only FS' since it's not in a mix.

What is the cause for this?

looks like something messed up XCC's default filename recognition tables... maybe reinstalling XCC will fix it?

Deleting the .dat file sorts this, no?

In fact deleting 'global mix database.dat' is what causes this (for me anyways). Deleting 'global mix cache.dat' can can fix XCC Mixer when it keeps crashing on startup, after which it'll automatically restore that file, but when you delete 'global mix database.dat', it's not automatically restored and XCC Mixer won't recognize most of the filenames in the original mix files anymore.

So to fix this, you'll have to restore the 'global mix database.dat' file (redownload XCC Mixer if you don't have the zip file containing it anymore).

Umm, Bittah, it's not that deleting "global mix database.dat" causes it, it's that "global mix database.dat" is a list of all filenames that XCC saves inside the mixfile when editing it, so if you remove that from the mixfile XCC simply doesn't have a clue what the filenames inside it are. Filename ID encoding is only one-way, remember.

This normally only happens for custom-named files though; not for filenames used by the original games. As I said, it simply has its own list of those.

[edit]

Whoops, as mentioned below, I confused it. The ones in mixfiles are "local mix database.dat" Embarassed

^^I think you mistake the "local mix database.dat" inside of each custom mix, with the "global mix database.dat" that is in the XCC folder and stores the filenames for all files WW used in their original mix-files.

If you delete "global mix database.dat", XCC mixer doesn't know the names of the original TD,RA1,TS,RA2 files anymore and instead of "gacnst.shp" it writes a hex number.

Where?

I am making a content-filter for Tiberian Sun, and each time I load an original .MIX file (Ex: MOVIES01.MIX, MAPS02, etc.) off of the CDs all the information is displayed like this:

For MAPS02.MIX (off of TS2 CD) opened in XCC Mixer 1.21:

Name Type Size Description
030BEB1f text 298075
0346C346 text 137051
143DD705 text 149582
and so on...

When I edited the TS movies for placement in an expand##.mix file, the only way I found out what to name them was by looking up the movie name list in your TS Custim Movies tutorial. I then found out which movie was which by looking them up in YouTube. Not the most efficient method. lol. Laughing

Sincerely,
Brandon

Blast!

Both GDI and NOD intro videos have the same ID.

I had to mod the GDI intro video and place it in the expand##.mix file. Unfortunately, that overrides the whole situation and replaces the NOD intro as well. Confused

As LKO said, Nyerguds confused 'global mix database.dat' (found in XCC Mixer's directory) with 'local mix database.dat' (found in every mix file created by XCC Mixer or XCC Mix Editor).

What's the causing the problem you're having is likely that 'global mix database.dat' is missing from XCC Mixer's directory.

Hmmm.

I checked the .ini files trying to find out where the intro.vqa could be referenced, but no luck.

There is an intro.vqa in both MOVIES01.MIX(TS1 CD - GDI) and MOVIES02.MIX(TS2 CD - NOD). The intro video starts directly after you select which campaign(GDI/NOD) you want to begin. Each are different.

Anyone dealt with this before?

If I could, say, get the game to look for a different video when starting the GDI campaign, then I could follow the Nyerguds Custom Video Tutorial and just add a "gdi_intro.vqa" or something. Or maybe just disable the intro startup and modify the first missions to have their own briefing videos and just reference the intros there.

It quite simply reads movies01.mix when starting the GDI campaign, and movies02.mix when starting the Nod campaign, so that way it'll get the correct video. If you put the video in an addon mixfile I'd expect it always taking that one.

In TFD they renamed em to intr0 and intr1, so I wouldn't count on being able to replace it with a mod anyway. It won't work for users of TFD TS or the freeware download TS.

Well that's pretty much what I suggested in the first place; reinstalling XCC.

The freeware download TS is the same as TFD in that they renamed the intros?

I did not know that. Thank you.

I suppose if I want to make this a mod, I should rename the intro.vqa into intr0.vqa then? That's the GDI intro?

Or have they totally redone everything in the latest version with diffrent MIX names and VQA names?

The freeware TS is nothing but a TFD version with an exe file that doesn't check for the TFD DVD.

And no, this is my 2665th post. Also, this board doesn't show user post counts #Tongue

Hmm...

Okay, where do you find global mix database? All of the mixes have "local mix database" Also, I'd think someone would know about this by now to be honest. I'm sure it's often that symbols appear for filenames.

As mentioned above, the 'global mix database.dat' file is located in XCC Mixer's folder and when file names appear as random numbers and letters, it means the 'global mix database.dat' file is either either missing from XCC Mixer's folder or it's corrupted.
This means you have to have to restore it from the zip file you also extracted XCC Mixer from (and if you don't have the zip file anymore, you have to redownload XCC Mixer).

As i said, reinstalling for me dosent fix this problem, it seems more like its a problem with the actual mix not the program, anyway to get that sorted.

My reply was to PePsiCola actually. I'm unsure what's causing the problem for you however... Have you tried deleting 'global mix cache.dat'? And does it happen with the original mix files or custom ones you created yourself?

Wait did you say "missing from the XCC Mixer folder"

Ah sorry guys, it's just a mistake of mine. I took out EVERY file in the XCC Mixer Folder except the important ones but accidently took out "global mix database.dat" They still exsist, just in another folder so my Utilities folder isn't cramped up.

Let's see, yep it works now. Wink

Yeah but deleting that file diddnt fix it, so i tried loading the original mixes and they were fine its just my modified ones that were giving problems.
Im guessing that means theyre corrupt then >_<

sounds like you used a 3rd party tool, edited the mix and accidentally removed the local mix database. Thus XCC mixer can't find the correct filenames anymore.

Well isnt xcc mixer a third party tool?
Thats all i used to edit the mixes, and i never go near the local mix database.dat which is still there within the mixes xD

This happens to all modded mix files? Also, are you using the latest version of XCC Mixer? If so, maybe try using XCC MIX Editor instead and see if that prevents the problem from happening.

yep, you're right. Then a 4th party tool to edit the 3rd party xcc mixer created mix files. #Tongue
