Grand Winter 2008 Voxel Competition!
Subject description: It starts now!
Hey all, its been freezing cold these days, classes are almost over, winter break is comming so I got a community activity for all of us: the Grand Winter 2008 Voxel Competition for TS and RA2!
***Here are the Rules***
1 - Strictly One unit per entrant. (If voxel was made in seperate parts i.e turret and barrel, etc. must be included)
2 - Must include HVA files, If applicable, turret and barrel voxels and HVA's, and offset must also be included.
3 - All Entries must be submitted by December 23 use the PM (Private message) system to submit voxel to all judges and results will be given on the 25th, the day of Christmas.
4 - There will be Public voting, all entries will be anonymously displayed. However, the Competitors are not allowed to Selfvote!
***Judging will be done by***
1 - Roaches (me) AKA Gamingroach
2 - Team Black
3 - AntiHero
Notes: These rules are agreed upon and final, as such will NOT be subjected to change. In extreme cases rules disputes will be settled by majority vote from the Organizers and Judges.
***Grading system***
maximum score is 100/100 and is divided by 5 scoring subjects below, each worth 20 points

A=80+ ; Voxel is great, I see little or no need for improvements.
B=65+ ; Voxel is very good, more improvements here and there will get you top of the hill.
C=50+ ; Voxel is Average, things can be improved by advices given by the judges to help young voxellers to reach their enlightment stage
D=35+ ; Voxel is below average, Needs lots of improvements, advices will be given.
The Entrant with the Highest score will be declared winner!

20 - Originality - Original or not, all entries will be scored on how original the design is.
20 - Normals/coloration - good useage of Normals and coloring
20 - Competence - Technical stuff, bounds, shape.
20 - Theme - Accuracy/Style being based on whatever inspired like concepts, drawings, etc.
20 - The pie factor - When all is said and done, if it actually looks good or not. Creativity, usability, etc.

Only the TurretOffset=FLH is needed (if voxel includes turret and has a offset from the center of the voxel). PrimaryFire/SecondaryFLHs are not needed. _________________

I have time to judge.
I have a few spotlighted voxels, so I think my experience with voxels is plenty enough, and for now I have time to judge, seeing as I wont be going home for christmas so my off time will be spent right here.

I think I can make some voxel from the 20th December (and I have few ideas). Till that and after I am pretty busy, but I think I can make something (+ I haven't shown few new voxels )

Um dude, I didn't make any last minute changes on the rules. All what raminatar asked was about the offset FLH rules applies on. And this comp is well timed, as school is over for me till spring starts. I know what I'm doing and it won't be rushed like last TW/KW themed competition. _________________

You could manually make it in teh editor,
or do the easier, higher-quality way of making it in 3d
(3DS2VXL FTW!) and some edits in voxel editor.
I'd recommend to you to learn 3d.
Personally, even my amateur 3d tanks,
when converted and edited,
are better voxels than I've ever could've done manually...

@Lt Albrecht: This competition has no theme restrictions so feel free to make whatever you want. Originality is what I'm aiming for as you are allowed to make whatever you want, anything from your favorite game/shows to whatever good ideas that you're dreaming of.

Well, I know how to make a voxel. I prefer to make them manualy in VXSL. 3D take to long to learn.
I was asking what tank I should do, like a concept tipp.
I'm in! if you don't mind, of course. I'm not as skilled as most of any of the other voxellers that are in, but I have some good concepts. _________________ Oh god how did this get here I am not good with computer. QUICK_EDIT

I think it should be for any game, not just RA2. It should be for TS as well, I don't like how RA2 messes with the normals of voxels it hurts my eyes. _________________

I'm more used to reviewing voxels made for RA2 than TS (no longer is a TS voxeller since RA2 was out).
We'll wait for Team Black response to this so we all can make an agreement and set up some new rules if we are going to make it apply to both games, that way we don't have problems and confusion to deal with in the end. _________________

hmm
"texturing" should be in the normals/coloring category.
I know some people like to paint their voxels in solid colors, and just let the normals do the shading, though this really doesn't look as good as a variety of shades and colors, which bring out the voxel's surface and details.
Also, I agree it should be for both TS as well as RA2. After all, voxels for both games are still very useful to PPM modders.

You can just submit your voxel. However, you can dropout anytime if you have personal problems to take care of, etc.
