Hello all, I've recently decided to give 3D modeling another shot with Blender and DonutArnold's great template.

I'll cut right to the information and say..

My inspiration is this:

I have:

My question is:

How can I make this less mario-esque and more fitting in RA2 for the 2x2 foundation it takes up?

Also, any general comments/concerns/critiques are more than welcome.
If you have any soviet-textures sitting around please throw them my way. Smile

Either turn it by 45° or make it rectangular, maybe.
The flat side of the triangle being turned right towards the viewer maikes it seem kind of "cut off" I think.

I like that one better.
And uhmmm... maybe add a more "rugged" texture to the pipes? They seem so smooth and shiney. Other than that, I really don't have anything you could improve.

I'm not really keen on putting anything on the pipes, but this looks better than absolutely nothing:

I just noticed I've somehow messed up the darker parts of the texture coming through, which kinda nullifies the whole appearance.

by turning it you make the central pipe very hard to spot, it almost feels as if those tubes were holding a platform. The central tube may need some umw mapping maybe? it's texture is only made of lines right now, it makes me suspicious.

Besides that, the only thing I could say is the same thing people have told me, try to add some dirt onto the pipes, it looks too clean. Try composite material if blender has it, if not, search for a material option that puts various textures together, that should do the trick.

What exactly are you making? I don't think you should get too hung up on how one piece looks like now until you've completed the entire building.

You're placing too much emphasis on just one part and you'll get lost in the finer details. I'd encourage you flesh out the entire design first and then began to add details/textures.
