CIV3 converter, anyone interested?
I could make a tool that converts CIV3 flc files to a bunch of png files(these can be converted to a shp file with a single click in XCC), if people are interested.
I do not want to make a program nobody is going to use which is why I ask.
Planned features:
- Convert to infantry or vehicle
- Can generate custom palette(for Ares/NPatch users).
- Fix shadow(convert those pink colors to shadow color and split it alternative change it to green and let XCC split and fix it). QUICK_EDIT
good luck getting around the quicktime copyright on the fli/flc format. (personally, I wouldn't install quicktime just for this tool)
I think an Irfanview plugin can do already most of this. (install flc plugin, then choose "extract all frames")
Then it's just a bit further batch conversion with irfanview and convert with SHP Builder or XCC Mixer.
Another problem i see is, that until now, i haven't seen a single converted CIV3 unit really matching into RA2 or TS. Shadows, lighting, size, animation speed and unit design are quite different.

Quicktime? I found a java class that can read a FLC file into a java image which I can manipulate and export freely.
Have anyone tried flipping the image, so the shadow that often points toward NW(civ3 style) points to NE(RA2 style)?
I thought apple bought the licenses for this format and the used codecs in it.
AFAIK does it allow to compress the animation using different codecs. Does the java class can decode them all?
But if it's free then fine. Would be also very nice to see a free good flicker format player that doesn't need quicktime.

Uhm... LKO, Civ3 FLIC format is NOT exactly the Autodesk FLIC format. At first glance they are but units wouldn't like that idea.

That could be sufficient for infantry.

Update: I know I've taken more time than just returning from Cologne, but I think I've got it fixed.
By the way, his account was in the memberlist, but the first letter of his account (¥R_M0dd€r) made it show up in the end, when you order it by alphabetic order. QUICK_EDIT
Converting Civ3 files can already be done in just a few clicks. Its reordering all the frames that takes bloody ages :/ Something that could help speed up that process would be more more appreciated. _________________
The class I found was unable to init civ3 flc files. :/
I found a library for C# called SharpAllegro. It should be able to import civ3 flc files.
I could probably code a simple console-based civ3 converter in C#(I have never coded in C# before) but due to lack of time I have to cancel those plans.
Since there are a few guys here who would like a civ3 converter, I think someone should do it. QUICK_EDIT
