ahhh. ok. resized alot better. the 4th are the best, because very easy to read, alot nicer, the rendering helps but . the other sketches are..very rough. and cluttered. makes it hard to read. Neutral

Thank you. after i uploaded these i headed over to the TS:RO (Which i am eager to play) and looked at all the concept drawings that Corsair and other members created, i really need to no what pencil there using!! And yes most of my drawings are rough rushed sketches as i dont get much time to sit down and draw! I know for definete that the 2nd drawing will become a voxel as i shall attempt it using VXL Editer III, but itll ave to wait till i get my pc fixed

Too sloppy. If you're not good at drawing crisp, clean lines, use a ruler.

Also, I suggest for all concept artists to use typewriter paper (the older the better - I use some stuff from the 1970's), and black gel finepoint pens. Best materials you can use.

Wow these are quite good, and also it's nice to meet a fan of our mod Very Happy.
I'm guessing that you would prefer to know what does Corsair use to draw, though anyways I'll tell you what I use #Tongue
-A normal graphite 6b hexagonal/trigonal pencil (I don't like the round ones; to make the basic sketch lines, and shadows, though most of them get lost during scanning Sad)
-A Parker Jotter mechanical pencil 0.5 mm (I like it's design, and it's quite comfortable; I use them to finish the small details) Though I used a Pilot Shaker 0.5 mm mechanical pencil, until it broke. Anyways sometimes I would use a pen to finish details.
-An eraser; BTW you should never use a plastic eraser.
-A sketch book #Tongue

That's what I use, basically. If you want to know what Corsair uses, I'm quite sure that he uses only a 6b pencil and white printer paper.

To answer how do we draw the human shape, just use a drawing dummy, I used one during art classes in school, though it's better and cheaper to internalize it (check this), as the dummy itself will become a burden when you try to draw non human shapes, or deformed human shapes.

BTW, don't use a ruler, they make the drawing look forced and unnatural, even if the drawing should be an object; rulers are only advised if you're doing technical drawing, and not concept art.

Finally, we were discussing to make a fan art topic at RO (can't remember with who, I think it was Corsair), but we concluded that it would be useless if we don't have any; anyways feel free to post them on the suggestion topic, if you think that your idea is good enough to be included in the mod (though I would prefer them to be posted as image links and not attachments as it would make them easier to move later #Tongue) in this way that topic would get used (the public one not the staff one). Or you could send them to me (preferably), or to another member via PMs.

I think you are being overly harsh there, they aren't particularly bad as far as fan/modder concept art work goes. I've seen people post much worse material than this. It may not be up to professional standard, but its certainly more than acceptable for a mod concept art IMO.

Thanks for all ur feedback and the tips! And i dont mind the odd critism:D. I use printer paper and pencils of h grade or below, But sinse Machine mentioned somthing about a mechanical pencil, i have dug it out and have started on some Mobile artillery bombardment hover vehicles. I will upload one here soon, rest of my drawings i will probaly submit to the TS:RO mod:D Ill try to minimalise my outragous texturing of the lines (I personally balme the pencil). And yes i do tend to write aload of jiberish, but its only to make the drawings look busier!

Hey, don't worry about it bud, pencils always produce rough lines, even with a ruler, they still look shit scanned.
Most pens do that in another form - ink bleeding. Gel Pen's are the only ones that don't do that. Even ballpoints have some nasty distortion upclose.
Use gel-pens if you really want nice clean lines when scanned, otherwise, you're going to have the problem with any writing utensil!

@Alexander C Bukington:
I was just trying to make a point, as I think that it isn't really important what you use; what makes the difference, is how you use your "tools".
BTW the pencils I mentioned are quite common, in other words, nothing special.

@02nwilson:
Wink BTW I did like the style you had in the concepts that you showed here (well, with the exception of C&c wars-orca.jpg), I think that you gave to them your unique style, which IMO is quite better than to imitate someone else's style #Tongue.

I must say, O. Wilson. I think some of the terrestrial vehicles you have are excellent. They should really exist in voxel form if this community had any drive left in them.

Um, it's called concept art, not concept drafting for a reason. The idea is to have an artistic basis for in-game or in-use higher quality art assets later (like costumes in movies or set designs). They're not exact blueprints. The lines don't have to be absolutley precise to still convey how the general idea of the unit.

I mean, hell, even a good bit of professional concept art for games has fairly sketchy lines, or lack of percision.

http://screenshots.filesnetwork.com/63/others/yuriscrn4.jpg (notice the butt of the rifle has lines that were carried beyond the boundary)

http://www.gamereplays.org/community/uploads/post-3379-1143029114.jpg (look at the human comparison)

Nobody made you art czar, even if you use your mom's old typewriter paper and think you're some hotshot because you used a T-square once in school.

This is the kind of attitude you cock that makes everyone and their mother despise you on forums. The exact reason why people flip out at you for no reason later.

Seriously dude, enough of that. He didn't steal anything or base his concepts on anything else. So just give it a rest.

I'm really liking these latest concepts, 02. The last arty pic looks ace. Good job with the human, after drawing for... about 9 years now, I still can't do people for shit.

Alrighty, let's clear some things up. First off, I picked the shit up from a friend of mine who dug the stuff out of one of his little urban explorations... some abandoned office building I think

Next off, I by no means am trying to be an art czar, I'm providing my opinion of how he could improve upon the work. Making things look cleaner and crisper allow people to see the detail more easily. When using a pencil, it's pretty much necessary to make lines as clean and detail as sharp as possible, or else it can look pretty awful when scanned in. I've learned that the hard way from my experience with graphite art, and was merely sharing my view on how to improve the visual quality of his scanned works.

I like these, a mixture of 75% TD and a bit of TS..., very clean too.

one little thing though. the figure, appears..out of scale compared to the building in the background...

anyways keep up the work.

Huzzah for completely missing the point. Rolling Eyes

Where you got it is irrelevant. Whether you swiped it from your dad's paper collection, your mom's old typewriter, a friend gave you it.. it's unimportant.

The fact that you're all "I r teh Prime, I r Gawd" is Ratti's point. Most respected people, excluding Banshee + the admins/mods, do not like you. Or, more accurately, your attitude. Yes, your work IS good. You're actually, iirc, the first/only person to truly put that much work into recreating the Soviet side of RA2. You seem to think that automatically propels you to god status, similar to a HL Xen jump pad.

Ok this is my jumjet Commando, The drawing is alittle faint as im using a different scanner atm. He/She is equiped with a flame thrower and has a rocket pod with its targeting equipment on his/her other shoulder.

Dude, you have skill, I'll give you that. Certainly at shading.

But something just lacks about your stuff, man. I can't really figure it out, but perhaps it is the flatness of it... Try bolding outer lines (The shape lines, not the detail lines) as I do in drafting class, it can really make a difference...

It's good, but the human shape is not right, it looks quite catooney and retro, like something that came from Astroboy or similar. The arms and legs are too thin when compared to the body; or maybe he's just too fat. The hands are fine. About the legs, you need to give the pants more textures, as it looks quite weird, just too plain.
Finally don't give flamethrowers to GDI units, as it's not their style.

BTW I like your previous work, specially the aircrafts #Tongue

yea aside from human anatomy.. I think the design of the outfit is a little too cluttered/bulky for a jumpjet commando type unit.

considering the unit is a more of a hit and run type of unit than a brute. but maybe thats what your going for. A jumpjet brute..that would be interesting. #Tongue

but anyways, try playing around with different designs. sketch out roughs and play around with the placement and aesthetics, look at other things that are aerodynamic and incorporate that feel to this design to convince us. Wink

also approach the design with this in mind, how is this going to work ingame? does it fit? style? balance? etc etc

Hmm, yeh that is a point! Thats really the first full human ive drawn and so i need a lot of practice buit i shall eventually get there, The Comando was purely to outdate the Ghost Stalker since i believe that since he is mutant he should stay like that (It would be that way if i decide t make a mod) As in balance's i believe that NOD's side is well unfair since it has 3 super weapons and a super unit and GDI only have 2 super weapons and 1 special unit! Also the Commando would never land, he would if you like be a hover unit, if he walked he would be two slow due to the missile racks wait, I could mabye exchange the flame thrower for a Heavy assault rifle or small railgun. Very Happy

If I am correct, everyones invited to post Concepts? If so - I got some too.

Theyre old or just wont be used at TO, but you may enjoy them Smile

The Spyder, a fast, spiderlike, lazerattacking infantrykiller. It was desidet that this wont be used due its similar look to the Cnc3-buzzers. Hell - didnt even know of them back then #Tongue

Really, this Swat-transporter is an old thang. The oldest concept I drew, to be true - it was my suggestion how to let the TO civilian Urban SWATtransporters look like.

The new Wolverine - or so it was intendet to be. Was disliked because of its round shape. Looks more like Nod than GDI. But still a nice vehicle.
I tried to rework the "powersuit". The first Wolverinetrials which could be seen at some specialtrailers at the CnC:TD-cds...

FINALLY SOME ONE ACTUALLY ADDED THERE OWN CONCEPTS!!!! Thanks Audiopulse that is the exact reason why i made this topic, so that everyone can share there material, I love the rendering and the wolverine looks classy! Very Happy

EDIT: Oh and slowly but surely im running out of ideas, it seems that all my drawings tend to look too similar and i cant think like i did when i drew those concepts! Sad But there are some i havent shown yet!! These include a Hover tank (Nod design which they obtain from the tacticus which is equipped with a daul laser cannon, a huge Hover mammoth design for GDI which has the improved state of the art Railgun's and new to the weapons rack, GDI's very own Napalm missile bombarment, these huge missiles lauch from the turret and deal deadly damage to the NOD scums ( A simple stand in for the Napalm airstrike from C&C) Another addition to Nods side is a mobile obelisk, this deployable tank deploys into a mini obelisk which holds 3/4 of the power of the full sized defence, Also there is the addition of a new helicopter that which follows on from the longbow! Thats enough said!

@ 02nwilson: o.o post them!...also research. google. yahoo...just look beyond what is already been done. try out more organic concepts.or a new style. Wink

I like the spyder. It has a certain appeal to it. I definately can imagine it animated.

Lol @ SWAT car, totally pimped out #Tongue, I also can imagine a squad of those blockading traffic, smashing through cars and mowing down...unlucky protesters. ;_;

I like the new gate, the idea of it rasing so units can pass under is an excellent idea. like to see a Mammoth Mk 2 get under it though #Tongue.

Well, was taking a break from my 3-d modeling I had this silly concept, Dino-riders kinda vision. where Kane decides to open his own theme park, but evil GDI wants to shut it down..#Tongue

anyways. its a R/C rex with a fricken laser beam on its head! mini-guns and mechanized razor claws for those close encounters, plus armor-plated and tiberium-powered. Wink

And more, This time i have made a Tiberian Wolf (simple design) and a mutated cyborg! Also there are plans for the mech i have drawn.

Offtopic: Would it be possible to make a unit upgradable by using component tower logic? Build as structure then undeploy? with the upgrade?

Nope. once you undeploy it, you lose whatever upgrades it got.

I like the scorpion, its like bonzy_buddy's Scorpling voxel he posted.

and the wolf seems pretty cozy, kinda cute. although a comment on the crystals, both on the wolf and cyborg, they look out of place,

look at the jack martin concept art for reference..Wink

make them integrate with the body's silhouette. if you can tell what it is just by its silhouette, then you got a good character design.

anyways. if you really seeking some more indepth critiques, improving your skills etc. I really suggest heading over to

Conceptart.org

amazing site. and good luck.

If the upgraded building would undeploy in a new unit type, than it could work. dont quote me on that though.

Can i join this tread?

here's ROS concept Art.

Design of Cyborg Reaper,i try to rid of spider desigh from ROS and i get insprise from Necron unit in WH40K [ i forgot it name] ythat why it's going to be hover.

ROS Temple Of Nod. because it's very hard to model.[for me] i need to improve my 3d skill to make it.

Core Defender, first i design it equip dual rocket pod,but rocket doesnt fit for Cyberbernatic Army anymore finally i change it to be electric cannon.

Cybernatic architecture concept.

Hyperion Ultimate Artillery Mech for Faderal Side.

and another project drawing. #Tongue

thank for this topic, this will be useful when my idea is deadend.

Interesting idea but I really don't see how to code it (upgraded building have not there own entry in rules.ini).

All this stuff looks really cool. I really should get back to drawing concpet art for my own projects, I might have something to show though.
